Nepal Flood Crisis: 2 Rescued Alive From Hydropower Tunnel; Search For Trapped Workers Continues

Nepal is facing a major flood and disaster crisis as rescue operations continue in areas hit by devastating floods and a deadly hydropower tunnel collapse.

Two bodies have been recovered from deep inside the flood-hit hydropower tunnel, while 41 people associated with the 20 MW project remain unaccounted for. Rescue teams, including the Nepali Army and CSSR personnel, are working to search the flooded tunnel and reach those still missing.

Rafts have been deployed as rescue teams navigate through difficult conditions inside the tunnel. The operation comes after a deadly collapse that left the hydropower project workers trapped.

At the same time, devastating flooding has displaced families, forcing survivors to seek shelter and safety. Residents have described losing homes, belongings and livelihoods, with many now facing uncertainty over where they will live and how they will rebuild.

India has also stepped up humanitarian assistance for flood-affected Nepal. Two Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft carrying 21.5 tonnes of humanitarian relief material landed in Kathmandu, with the assistance handed over to Nepalese authorities to support ongoing relief and rescue operations.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has also sent around 25 tonnes of relief material for flood-affected people in Nepal from Siliguri, West Bengal.

As rescue operations continue, families are mourning those lost in the disaster while authorities work to locate those still missing.
