Sudan Darfur Landslide Kills 1,000+, Village Completely Destroyed

A catastrophic landslide struck Sudan’s western Darfur region, killing more than 1,000 people in Tarasin village of the Marra mountains. Triggered by days of heavy rain, the disaster buried residents under debris and completely leveled the village, according to the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM). With only one survivor, the SLM has appealed to the UN and aid agencies for urgent assistance, as Sudan already faces a worsening humanitarian crisis amid civil war.
