Iranian Media Rejects Reports Of Khamenei's Death, Says 'He Is Commanding The Field'

Tehran: There are reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed and his body recovered. However, Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Mehr are contradicting the reports. Quoting a source close to Khamenei’s office, Iranian media said, “I can tell you with confidence that the leader of the revolution is steadfast and firmly commanding the field."

The Iranian government has not yet confirmed whether Khamenei is dead or alive.

‘Mental Warfare’: Iran

Amid reports of the assassination of the 86-year-old leader, an Iranian public relations official said that Iran's enemies were resorting to “mental warfare”. Meradad Seyed Mehdi, who is the head of publicity for Iran Supreme Leader’s office, wrote on social media, “Beware of the psychological warfare being waged by the U.S. and Zionist enemies (Israel), who suffered heavy losses from our soldiers’ powerful attacks.”

‘Baseless Claim’

Reacting to US President Donald Trump's claim that Khamenei has been assassinated, Iranian state media outlet Fars News said it is a “baseless claim”.

‘As Far As I Know, He’s Alive': Iran Minister

Earlier in the day, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi stated that “as far as” he knows, Iran's supreme leader Ayatolalh Ali Khamenei was still alive. His remark came shortly after Khamenei's residence was attacked. Khamenei's secure compound was extensively damaged in the attack. Thick plume of black smoke were seen emanating from the Iranian leader's compound and the residence seemed to have collapsed to the ground.

However, following the attack, Iranian officials maintained that Khamenei was safe and had been moved to a secure location prior to the attack.

Photographic Proof Of Khamenei’s Death?

As per reports, US President Donald Trump and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been shown picture of Khamenei's body as proof of his death. Netanyahu earlier said that there are “signs” that Khamenei is no longer alive.

Trump has also stated that Khamenei is dead, adding that he could not avoid American intelligence and their “highly sophisticated tracking systems”.
