Jerusalem: Multiple buses exploded in the Israeli city Bat Yam, a city outside Tel Aviv, leaving them bursting into flames on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The incident, which is suspected to be a terror attack, sent a shock wave across the city, spreading fear among the citizens. The Israeli forces immediately scrambled to investigate the explosion, deploying large police forces to the scene to search for suspects.

According to the reports, the eyewitnesses shared footage on social media, showing plumes of black smoke billowing from a parking lot in Bat Yam, with at least one bus entirely engulfed in fire. Fortunately, authorities have reported no casualties so far.

City Mayor Tzvika Brot confirmed that there were no casualties during the incident. The head of the bus company said they immediately ordered all bus drivers to stop and conduct a thorough inspection and resume their routes after finishing it.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ’s office said that the PM was receiving updates from his military secretary following the events.

Amidst the ongoing tension with Hamas and ceasefire deals, the incident has sparked widespread concern, with authorities urging the public to avoid the surrounding areas and remain vigilant for suspicious items. In response to the attack, Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev has halted the operation of all buses, trains, and light rail trains to check for possible explosive devices.

“Multiple reports have been received of explosions involving several buses at different locations in Bat Yam. Large police forces are at the scenes, searching for suspects. Police bomb disposal units are scanning for additional suspicious objects,” the Israeli Police Spokesperson’s Unit said.

The explosion in the buses is the latest in a series of escalating tensions between Israel and Palestinian militant groups. In recent months, the region has witnessed a surge in violence, including the horrific October 7 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people.

The October 7 attacks, carried out by Hamas and other militant groups, involved coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life. The attacks were widely condemned by the international community, with many countries denouncing them as terrorism.

Meanwhile, the latest suspected terror attack has further escalated tensions in the region. The Israeli government has vowed to take swift action to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and to identify the cause and people behind the incident.

Further details regarding the incident are being awaited.
