North Carolina Boat Shooting: 3 Dead, Multiple Injured After Gunman Opens Fire Near Popular Southport Restaurant

Panic and chaos broke out on Saturday night near the American Fish Company restaurant in Southport after a gunman opened fire from a boat, killing three people and injuring several others. The exact number of injured victims is still unknown.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. at the Southport Yacht Basin, a popular waterfront area where people had gathered to enjoy the evening. Witnesses say the gunman fired into the crowd from a boat that had pulled up near the restaurant. After the shooting, the boat fled the scene and no suspects have been caught as of the latest update.

Authorities have issued an active shooter alert and warned residents to stay indoors. In a statement, the City of Southport urged the public to remain at home and report any suspicious activity immediately to 911. “There are reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin. There is an unknown number of injuries. Avoid the area and remain in your homes,” the city said in a Facebook post.

City Manager Noah Saldo confirmed to local media that the suspect had escaped by boat and had not been captured as of 10:30 p.m.

The American Fish Company, known as one of Southport’s most popular hangout spots, was hosting a live performance by the local band “Bacon Grease” from 7 to 10 p.m. when the shooting took place. The restaurant often draws large crowds for its music events and waterfront views.

Officials have not yet released the names of the victims or provided any information on the motive behind the attack. Investigators are continuing their search for the suspect and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
