The video showed a Unitree G1 humanoid robot, wearing a blue clown wig, performing martial arts stunts in front of dozens of spectators on a rainbow-coloured mat. The robotics demonstration took a shocking turn when the 70-pound robot suddenly took a dramatic spin, extended its leg and delivered a flying kick to a young boy's stomach in an unprovoked attack.
The boy was seen yelping and clutching his stomach in extreme pain. Unable to remain standing, the child collapsed to the ground.
Meanwhile, after kicking the child, the robot was seen continuing demonstrating his martial arts moves.
The child's mother later confirmed that the boy was not seriously hurt, local media reported.
The incident reignited concerns over programming error and glitches in advanced machines that are deployed in public places. Reacting to the video of the incident, a netizen said, “Terminator movies were right.” Another questioned, “Why are humans so determined to create machines that could eventually replace us?”
A concerned social media user said that the kick might not have been Intentional but it raises a lot of questions on the various scenarios that things could go wrong with AI and robots in the future, which will have unexpected consequences.
Another comment read, "The trouble with machines is - they operate themselves with no qualms. Very sinister." An angry X user questioned, “Who designs these metal demons?”
Humanoid Scares Elderly Woman
In March, a humanoid allegedly scared an elderly woman on the streets of Macau. According to local reports and circulating videos, the incident occurred during a public demonstration of the humanoid robot by a education centre that was using it for promotional activities.
The robot was reportedly moving along a sidewalk and interacting with pedestrians when a 70-year-old woman walking nearby became frightened by its sudden movement.
Witnesses said that woman, who was looking at her phone while walking, appeared startled and briefly lost her balance after the robot abruptly appeared behind her.
“You’re making my heart race!” the woman yelled at the robot, as per local media. She added, “You’ve got plenty to do, so what’s the point of messing around with this? Are you freaking crazy?”
Dramatic visuals from the scene showed the humanoid standing with both its hands raised in front of the woman while being scolded.
Emergency services were called and the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution. Authorities later confirmed that she was conscious and did not suffer serious injuries.
