'No Exemptions!': Hours After Ceasefire, Trump Slaps 50% Tariffs On Nations Supplying Weapons To Iran
US President Donald Trump has slapped 50% tariffs on nations supplying weapons to Iran. There are no exclusions or exemptions and the tariffs are effective immediately.
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has slapped 50% Tariffs on nations supplying weapons to Iran. He stressed that he will make no exclusions or exemptions and all goods sold to America by countries arming Iran will have to bear the brunt of the new tariffs.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said, “A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!”
This comes just hours after Trump agreed to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for a two-week period, citing ongoing negotiations and efforts to de-escalate tensions. The announcement was made just hours before Trump's deadline for Iran to agree to a deal or face devastating strikes on its infrastructure ended.
Tariffs Relevant Despite Ceasefire?
Despite the ceasefire, Trump's tariffs seem relevant amidst the recent developments in the Middle East.
‘War Not Over’
First of all, Iran Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has stated that the war is not over. “This is not the end of the war but all military branches should follow the Supreme Leader's order and cease their fire. It is emphasized that this does not signify the termination of the war,” Iranian media quoted Mojtaba Khamenei as saying.
The Supremo further said, “Our hands remain upon the trigger, and should the slightest error be committed by the enemy, it shall be met with full force."
Discrepancy Over Nuclear Plan
According to Iran's demand for ceasefire, Tehran's right to uranium enrichment must be recognised. However, Trump has always maintained a hardline anti-nuclear programme stance. Following the ceasefire, he firmly stated that there will be “no enrichment of Uranium” in Iran.
“The United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove all of the deeply buried (B-2 Bombers) Nuclear “Dust.” It is now, and has been, under very exacting Satellite Surveillance (Space Force!). Nothing has been touched from the date of attack," he wrote on Truth Social.
The President further stated that US will discuss about granting tariff and sanction relief with Iran, a demand which was mentioned in Tehran's ceasefire proposal.
“Many of the 15 points have already been been agreed to,” he added.
