Wait, What? There Is An 'Islamic Republic Of JAPAN'? Trump Confuses Iran With Land Of The Rising Sun At NATO Summit

US President Donald Trump has again made a hilarious gaffe on an international platform. While discussing about USA's conflict with Iran at a press conference at the NATO Summit, Trump mistakenly ‘coined’ a new nation- ‘Islamic Republic of Japan’.

The verbal slip-up occurred as 80-year-old Donald Trump confused the Land of the Rising Sun with the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying, “We had 111 missiles shot by the Islamic Republic of Japan. They were shot at the aircraft carrier over a period of about one hour."

He then went on to praise the US missile defense systems for knocking down every single projectile. While the context clearly centered on the ongoing tensions and recent military exchanges between the United States and Iran, Trump conflated Tehran with the Land of the Rising Sun.

Trump said, "111 missiles going to a very expensive ship, and every one of those missiles was knocked down, pretty much most by patriots, but by other means also."

Notably, while Iran is USA's enemy, Japan is its ally.

This is not the only gaffe made by Trump at the NATO Summit. Trump, who was sitting beside Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, mistook him for their enemy, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Pointing to Zelenskyy, Trump said:

"Do you have a question for President Putin?"

The twin mistakes attracted widespread attention on social media. Several people claimed that Trump, who is 80, is showing signs of “dementia”.
 

A Japanese tweeted, "Am I going to become a Muslim starting today, by any chance?"

Another joked, “Damn it Japan, why do you keep attacking the ship.” An X user quipped, "He's right. Ayatollah Yamamoto ordered the attack on the American aircraft carrier."
