Popular Bollywood movies that were remade into regional films

Bollywood films taking inspiration from regional as well as Hollywood films are very common. Here are Hindi films that were later adapted into other languages.

The Hindi film industry remaking popular regional films is very common. Some popular films from this category include Billu, Singham, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, etc. But there has also been an almost equal number of times where the regional film industry has copied Bollywood as well. Here are some of the iconic Bollywood films that were remade into regional films:

1. Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is one of the most popular films until now. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, and Gracy Singh, it also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film. There have been numerous remakes of the film including Shankar Dada M.B.B.S in Telugu, Vasool Raja MBBS in Tamil, Uppi Dada M.B.B.S. in Kannada, and Dr. Nawariyan in Sinhala.

2. No Entry (2005)

The original comedy film was directed by Anees Bazmee and had Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, and Celina Jaitly in lead roles. The film was a remake of the Tamil film, Charlie Chaplin. The film was later remade in Marathi as No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey starring Sai Tamhankar, Ankush Choudhary, Bharat Jadhav, Aniket Vishwasrao, Kranti Redkar, and Manva Naik. A Bengali remake of the film was also released in 2016 titled Kelor Kirti.

3. Jab We Met (2007)

Jab We Met was directed by Imtiaz Ali and starred Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. The film turned out to be a huge hit both in India and abroad. It was announced that the film will be remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. However, it was only remade in Tamil as Kanden Kadhalai.

4. Dabangg (2010)

Dabangg was one of the highest-grossing films of 2010 and also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. It starred Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, and Arbaaz Khan in pivotal roles. Dabangg was later remade in Tamil as Osthe and in Telugu as Gabbar Singh.

5. Pink (2016)

Pink was directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and starred Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Pink was later remade in Tamil with the title Nerkonda Paarvai. It had Ajith Kumar in the lead role and was a huge commercial success as well. There have also been talks of the film being remade in Telugu.
