Akshay Kumar's Bhooth Bangla: 'GOATs Of Comedy' Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav Join Priyadarshan's Film?
Akshay Kumar announced his next project Bhoot Bangla which began rumours about possible reunion of the OG cast, including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, & Asrani.
Akshay Kumar 's recent career has seen its share of highs and lows. While some of his films haven’t done well at the box office, his last release, Khel Khel Mein has performed reasonably well. Despite poor response regarding his film choices, Akshay seems unfazed and has now announced his next project, Bhooth Bangla. For this movie, he has reunited with ace director Priyadarshan after 14 years. The latest social media buzz has suggested that makers have now roped in Akshay’s OG Bhool Bhulaiyaa gang for the upcoming horror comedy.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa trio to reunite in Bhooth Bangla
Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have given many cult classic comedy films to their fans such as Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). With the announcement of their upcoming horror-comedy after a long break, rumours began circulating about a possible reunion of the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa cast, including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani.
A few reports suggest that it is confirmed. However, no official announcement has been made yet. There are also speculations that Kareena Kapoor Khan may take on the female lead, sparked by Priyadarshan's recent visit to her home before the film’s official reveal.
‘The GOATs of comedy movies are back’
Fans were excited after the reports swirled and started praising Priyadarshan's impressive casting decision. One social media user excitedly remarked, “Ye original bhoot bangla hi ban raha haina!” Another shared, “The GOATs of comedy movies are finally back together with master #Priyadarshan,” while a third enthusiastic fan added, “No one can match up to this @akshaykumar @priyadarshandir Sir.”
The film is set to begin shooting in early 2025, with a big release planned for the end of the year.
Do you know about the original Bhoot Bungla?
Akshay Kumar ’s Bhooth Bangla will be the second film with the same name. Bhoot Bungla, released in 1965, is one of the earliest horror comedies in South Asian cinema. Co-written by comedian Mehmood and Ranjan Bose, it was directed by Mehmood, who also played the lead role alongside Tanuja and Nazir Hussain. While the plot drew inspiration from Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles, it presented a fresh narrative.
Mehmood's unique blend of horror and comedy was new to Indian audiences, and the film became an unexpected box-office hit, solidifying his reputation as both a director and a popular star.
