Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency has been in the news ever since the movie was announced. Based on the Indian Emergency, the biographical political drama was first supposed to hit the theatres last year in November. However, it was rescheduled to release on June 14, 2024, only to get postponed again due to the Lok Sabha elections. A few months ago, the actress took to her social media handle to announce the new release date, September 6.

Now, her film has fallen into legal trouble after the release of the trailer, leading to getting postponed again. This time, the reason is that CBFC is yet to send the certification to the makers. This happened after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), on Friday, sent a legal notice to CBFC seeking to prevent the release of Ranaut's film, claiming it may "incite communal tensions" and "spread misinformation".

Every day there's a new cut being given to the film: Kangana Ranaut

The source told PTI, "Even though they (CBFC) have put a U/A certificate on their website, the makers haven't received the copy of the certificate yet. Everyday there's a new cut being given to the film, which they are doing due to some pressure. Kangana is fighting for the sanctity of the film."

Sikh sentiments were hurt by the Emergency, but why?

In a video issued on social media, Kangana said, "There is pressure on us to not show the assassination of Mrs Gandhi, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the Punjab riots." About Emergency, it has been alleged that the film depicts Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals, a portrayal that is "offensive" and damaging to the community's image.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984. Two of the Prime Minister’s bodyguards, Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, fired over 30 bullets at her from point-blank range, purportedly to avenge the humiliation of Sikhs and the desecration of the Golden Temple during Operation Blue Star in June of that year.
