Ganesh Acharya is one of the iconic choreographers of Indian cinema, who has been awarded the National Film Award twice for Best Choreography. First, he won in 2013 for the song Hawan Kund from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and second was in 2017 for the song Gori Tu Lath Mar from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. With his career spanning over 3 decades, he choreographed many hit tracks in Bollywood and a few in South Indian cinema. However, the veteran choreographer, in a recent interview, claimed that the Hindi cinema artists never appreciated his efforts or gave credit for making the choreography hit. Whereas Allu Arjun called him after his song Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava from Pushpa: The Rise took over the internet.
Ganesh Acharya appeared on comedian Bharti Singh's YouTube channel Bharti TV where he opened up about his experience working in South Indian cinema. He shared that actors in the South actors don't throw tantrums whereas in Bollywood it is the opposite. He compared the stardom in both industries and said that if a movie gets a hit in Bollywood then the actor is given all the credit, whereas in the South everyone, even the technicians is appreciated. He recalled how Allu Arjun called him around a week after Pushpa's release and thanked him for making him look good in the song. For the unversed, Ganesh Acharya has choreographed three Pushpa songs that were chartbuster hits - Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava (Pushpa: The Rise), Sooseki and Kissik (Pushpa 2: The Rule).
"To date, I haven't received a call from a Bollywood actor saying 'Master ji aapne kya gana kia hai'," said Acharya. He added Allu Arjun was the one who gave him the due credit after the actor was appreciated for his moves in Pushpa songs. "Allu Arjun called me and said, "Master ji aapne kamal ka gaana kia hai. Mujhe apke wajah sai log appreciate kaar rahe. (Allu Arjun said Master ji you have done an amazing job. People are appreciating me because of you.)"
The 53-year-old choreographer recalled being invited to Pushpa's success bash which was quite different to what he had imagined. He shared that Allu Arjun invited him to the success bash of Pushpa in Hyderabad. Initially, the choreographer thought it would be a simple party where people would come together eat, drink and leave. However, he was stunned to see Allu Arjun and Sukumar, among other bigwigs, presenting awards to the spot boy, light man and other crew members.
"Voh toh choro mujhe success party mai bualaya Hyderabad. I thought success party mai log ayenge khayenge but wahan pai bakaida ek stage lagaya tha aur maine dekha light man, spot man, baithe hai aur Allu Arjun, Sukumar and humlog milke unsaab ko award derahe hai. Yeh maine life mai first time dekha," Acharya recalled.
