IC814: The Kandahar Hijack Controversy: Vijay Varma starrer has been in the news since the release but for all the wrong reasons. Released on August 29 on Netflix, the movie earned positive reviews from the critics, owing to the actors' performance. However, audiences on social media calling for a boycott as the hijackers allege that makers have changed the name of the hijackers. Amid this, director Anubhav Sinha seems to be unaffected by the criticism and his recent social media shares the proof.

Anubhav Sinha is 'indebted' with the love

Taking to his X handle, Anubhav wrote in Hindi which we loosely translated to, "I have received so much love in the last three days that I cannot describe it. I am indebted." His reaction has come amid the netizens calling for boycotting Netflix and Bollywood.

What is the name change controversy about?

On Sunday, the internet rose in uproar lashing out at the makers for "whitewashing" the events, particularly, the names of the hijackers. They pointed out that the names of the hijackers in reality are Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny, Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. In the series they are named Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief, seemingly codenames of the hijackers.

Taking to X, a user wrote, "Names of IC814 Hijackers changed to Shankar & Bhola by @anubhavsinha This is how Bollywood let the TERRORISTS WIN: #BoycottBollywood."

“This is just not acceptable @MIB_India @MIB_Hindi @AmitShahOffice @PMOIndia. This is insulting to the nation at large. The propagandists are the biggest perpetrators of the crime against national security and unity. #BoycottIC814,” wrote another.
