59 Arrests Made In Statewide Crackdown Over Unregulated Deposits: Assam Police
59 individuals have been arrested in the cases related to Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act in Assam, police said.
Guwahati: The Assam Police have constituted 14 Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to conduct comprehensive investigations into cases related to the Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, according to Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh.
These SITs will report to a supervision and monitoring group based at the Assam CID headquarters, which is overseen by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of CID. DGP GP Singh noted that the police's crackdown on unregulated deposit schemes has covered 14 districts, leading to the registration of 28 cases and the arrest of 59 individuals.
"Additionally, 22 Look Out Circulars (LOC) have been issued for individuals who have failed to cooperate with investigations despite receiving notices. The cases have been registered under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019, and relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita," he said.
On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that no one can avoid the police indefinitely.
In a related development, the CID team arrested two individuals in connection with an investment fraud case involving the YBY app. The case, registered as CID Cyber PS Case No. 12/24 under Sections 111(2)(b), 318(4), 316(2), and 316(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita, along with Section 66 of the IT Act, pertains to a large-scale investment scam.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Aniram Basumatary (38) and Mithinga Narzary (48), both residents of Gohpur in the Biswanath district, according to officials.
