The aerial attack have initiated a new phase in the ongoing conflict between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes.
Imphal: Amid growing threat of drone attacks in strife-torn Manipur, the state police has turned to the National Security Guard (NSG) to tackle the unprecedented challenge before it escalates any further.
Recently, Manipur's Imphal have witnessed such unprecedented escalation of violence in which drones hve been used to drop mortar bombs and RPG shells on civilians and security forces for the first time in state's history. The aerial attack have initiated a new phase in the ongoing conflict between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes.
Multiple drone attacks in Imphal West district in the past few days have claimed two lives and left injured several others. Meanwhile, the Manipur government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the drone attacks.
The probe panel will examine and study the drones deployed and will also collect evidence and study specifications of the drones used. The high-level committee will also explore the counter measures.
This recent development comes after recent back-to-back drone attacka rocked Manipur both on Sunday and Monday. Over 50 bombs were dropped in Imphal East and Imphal West, promptng the Manipur DGP to take stock of the situation. According to sources, on Tuesday evening, the DGP spoke to the NSG. Therafter it was decided that a team of experts will be sent to the state. This comes after a disscusion was done with the high level committee that are essentially looking at measures to counter the drone attacks.
The bombs that have been dropped are crude bombs that have exploded after an impact, resulting in large-scale devastation.
The joint efforts by the police and the NSG is to ensure that the radar system works effectively so that they shoot down the drone before the bombs are dropped.
