Amritsar: An explosion occurred outside the Thakur Dwar Temple in Amritsar's Khandwala area during the early hours of Saturday, damaging the walls and shattering window panes. While no injuries were reported, the incident has left locals in a state of panic. The blast, which occurred after midnight, has raised concerns about security in the region.

The incident was caught on CCTV, showing two bike-borne men approaching the temple. After a brief pause, one of the men is seen throwing an explosive device at the temple before both quickly flee the scene.

Following this, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that police were notified of the explosion around 2 am by the temple priest. He stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Suspects Identified, Punjab Minister Assures Swift Action

Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal confirmed that two suspects had been identified in connection with the blast.

"There were some miscreants who hurled a grenade at a temple after 12 am. There are no injuries or casualties... The situation is under control," he said, adding that authorities were taking swift action to apprehend the culprits. He assured the public that the police would catch the suspects within a day.

The blast at Thakur Dwar Temple follows another violent incident in Amritsar, where at least five people were injured in an attack at the Golden Temple premises on Friday. The attack, involving an assailant using an iron rod, took place at the Shri Guru Ramdas Sarai, a lodging facility for pilgrims, adding to the sense of unease in the region.

This explosion is part of a growing series of similar incidents in the region, with multiple explosions targeting police posts in Amritsar and Gurdaspur over the past few months. The recurring attacks have raised concerns about the safety and security of the area, with the authorities vowing to increase vigilance and take decisive action.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed the situation, acknowledging the attempts to disturb peace in the state. However, he assured the public that the law and order situation in Punjab remained under control.

Police Suspect Possible Link to Pakistan 's ISI

In a concerning development, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar suggested that the Pakistan-based intelligence agency, ISI, could be behind the blast.

"We got information at 2 am and rushed to the spot right away. A forensic team was called... We checked the CCTV and spoke to the nearby people. The thing is that Pakistan's ISI lures our youth into creating disturbances in Punjab," Commissioner Bhullar said.

He also issued a stern warning to the youth, urging them not to ruin their lives. "I warn the youth not to ruin their lives... We will catch the culprits soon," he said.
