New Delhi: Probe has intensified into the encounter of Akshay Shinde, Badlapur sexual assault accused, with Maharashtra 's Crime Investigation Department (CID) taking over the case of his death on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, a team of forensic science experts examined the police vehicle, in which Shinde was allegedly shot by a cop on Monday evening, officials said.

Akshay Shinde (24) was reportedly killed near Mumbra bypass when he allegedly snatched the gun of a cop while he was being ferried in a police vehicle. A police personnel was also injured in the exchange of fire. 

For the unversed, Akshay Shinde was accused of sexually abusing two girls at a school in Badlapur town of Maharashtra 's Thane district.

According to police, Shinde, who was being taken to Badlapur from Taloja jail for investigation fired at a policeman and was injured in retaliatory firing. When the police vehicle reached Mumbra bypass, Shinde snatched a policeman’s gun and fired at an assistant police inspector. Shinde was injured in retaliatory firing, the official said. He later succumbed to injuries. 

According to sources, a team of CID officials are expected to visit the crime spot at Mumbra bypass. The CID team will also record statements of police personnel who were present inside the vehicle at that time. The statements of Akshay Shinde's parents are likely to be recorded by the probe team.

Akshay's Body moved to JJ Hospital for post-mortem

Shinde's body was transferred from the Kalwa civic hospital in Thane to the state-run J J Hospital for post-mortem on Tuesday morning. His post-mortem will be conducted in-camera in the presence of expert doctors.

According to media reports, Akshay's father Anna Shinde has demanded an inquiry into his son's killing. Akshay's family members have challenged the police claim that he fired at a policeman first following which cops retaliated in self-defence, leading to his death. The two minors were allegedly abused in the school toilet on August 12. Subsequently, the accused was arrested on August 17.

'Killing of justice': Sexual Assault Survivor's Lawyer

The gunning down of Badlapur case accused Akshay Shinde was the "killing of justice", said Asim Sarode, lawyer for the two minor girls he allegedly sexually assaulted.
