New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a criminal, wanted in a murder case in Gokalpuri, after a brief exchange of fire, said police.

The accused has been identified as Ravi alias Rinku (42). During encounter, he sustained a bullet injury on his left leg following which he was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

It is learnt that he is a repeated offender and has  involved in 7 crimes, including 3 cases of murder registered in PS Pandav Nagar (2009), PS Jyoti Nagar (2011) and PS Gokalpuri (2024).

According to  Delhi Police, Ravi was also involved in cases of dacoity (complaint registered at PS. Sadar Bazaar – 2006), extortion ( complaint registered at PS. Gokalpuri – 2018), criminal assault (complaint registered at PS. GTB Enclave – 2019) and possession of illegal firearms (complaint registered at PS. Gokalpuri – 2020).

According to the police, Ravi had allegedly killed 44-year-old Neeraj Arora by slitting his throat on August 24 in Gokalpur village in the national capital. The police team led by Inspector Praveen Kumar, SHO of Gokalpur, had been tracking his movements ever since the murder. 

On Monday, Delhi police received a tip-off that Ravi would be coming to the Gokalpuri area. The accused was intercepted late night on August 26. According to the police officials, the accused opened fire at the police party intercepting him. In retaliatory firing, Ravi sustained one injury on his left leg, after which the accused was arrested. No other casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, police recovered a pistol containing one live round in the chamber and one stolen motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

Three more people accused in the Neeraj Arora case have been arrested so far. The other three accused have been identified as 38-year-old Ravi, 35-year-old Bhupender (Jalim) and 37-year-old Neeraj Kumar.

Police said an argumnent had broken out between the deceased and the accused in a park near Loni Gol Chakkar during a drinking session, after which the alleged attack and subsequent murder took place.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of BNS, BNSS and the Arms Act for firing at the police party and resisting arrest.
