New Delhi: In a bid to ease travel within the Delhi International Airport premises, the government is planning to introduce India’s first air train system. The new transit project will ease out traveling between airport terminals T1, T2, T3, parking lots, and other facilities within the airport campus. Below are some key highlights of the ambitious upcoming project.   

  • The proposed project also being called as ‘Automated People Mover’ will connect all the three terminals, cargo and parking facilities at the Delhi’s IGI airport in the future. 
  • The total length of the project is expected to be around 8 kms, covering four stations.
  • According to reports, the new transit system will replace the existing DTC buses, which are presently the mode of travel within the airport.

DIAL announces tender for air train project 

The Delhi International Airport Authority has announced a tender, inviting applications for constructing India’s first air train transit system, a report in the Times of India said.

According to reports, the bids for project are expected to announced in the next couple of months.

Delhi airport among world's top 50 

The IGI airport in Delhi is the only Indian airport listed in the Global Top 50 Airports list by Skytrax.

It's also India's top-ranked airport and was previously recognised as the best airport for 5 consecutive years in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 in its global region category.
