Delhi LG Unveils 22 Developmental Projects and Launches Namo Drone Didi Scheme to Empower Women
Delhi LG VK Saxena inaugurated 22 developmental projects and launched the Namo Drone Didi scheme to empower women in villages.
On Wednesday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inaugurated 22 developmental projects in 18 villages of southwest Delhi. These projects include the installation of street lights, road improvements, and the renovation of a community hall under the Dilli Gramoday Abhiyan (DGA).
Launch of Namo Drone Didi Programme
The Namo Drone Didi programme was also launched with the goal of financially empowering women and their self-help groups. Approximately 200 women in Delhi will receive training to operate drones and will be awarded drone pilot licence certificates.
Alignment with Prime Minister's Vision
Saxena emphasized that the DGA aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of enhancing village development to match urban amenities. He expressed his commitment to developing Delhi’s villages similarly to other city areas, which will also benefit residents of nearby unauthorised colonies.
Utilization of Gram Sabha Area Fund
Launched in December 2023, the DGA aims to improve living conditions in villages through enhanced civic amenities. The Gram Sabha Area Fund of Rs 960 crore, previously unused by the Delhi government, has been transferred to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for these developmental works.
Completion of Developmental Works
Recent works completed include street light installations in various areas, the renovation of community halls, and improvements in roads and cremation grounds. To date, 552 projects worth Rs 508 crore have been sanctioned under the DGA, with 35 already completed.
Objectives of the Dilli Gramoday Abhiyan
The DGA’s objectives include enhancing village life by addressing infrastructure gaps, strategic planning based on local needs, promoting community participation, and ensuring equitable access to community resources and opportunities.
