India Rebukes Trudeau's Remark On Meeting With PM Modi In Laos, Says 'No Substantive Discussion'
India rebukes Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s remarks on holding a brief meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Laos, saying that there was no substantive discussion.
India on Friday blasted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s remarks on holding a brief meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Laos, saying that there was no substantive discussion between PM Modi and Trudeau in Vientiane. Following Trudeau’s statement regarding his meeting with the Indian prime minister, the Government of India took on the Canadian PM over sheltering anti-India elements saying that relations between the two countries are irreparable unless strict action is taken against Khalistanis.
Notably, PM Narendra Modi and Canada PM Justin Trudeau met on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Laos, almost a year after his Canadian counterpart accused India of involvement in the death of a Canadian Khalistan separatist.
In a statement, post Trudeau’s remarks, the Indian government said that India continues to expect that anti-India Khalistani activities will not be allowed to take place on Canadian soil and that firm action, which is lacking thus far, will be taken against those advocating violence, extremism and terrorism against India from Canadian territory.
The growing nexus of such forces with organized crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well, the Indian government stated.
Further, it was said that India attaches importance to relations with Canada but these cannot be repaired unless the Canadian government takes strict and verifiable action against those who actively pursue anti-India activities and have conspired to promote hate, disinformation, communal disharmony and violence in India as well as Canada.
