New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi Excise Policy Case, nearly six months after his arrest, reacting to the development, BJP said that Kejriwal's arrest was lawful and justified and asked for his resignation.

The case, involving alleged corruption in the excise policy, was initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI).

BJP stated on X, “In Arvind Kejriwal 's case, the Honourable Supreme Court has clearly indicated that his arrest is legal, and the charges against him are valid.”

The BJP further remarked on X, “It is no great achievement for Kejriwal to secure conditional bail. The trial will proceed, and he is likely to face a long sentence soon. Kejriwal should remember that he now joins the ranks of former Chief Ministers like Jayalalithaa, Lalu Yadav, and Madhu Koda, who were granted bail but later sentenced to prison.”

“Given the conditions of his bail, Kejriwal may be out of jail for now, but he has no right to continue as Chief Minister. Kejriwal should resign!”

Delhi CM and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail in the Delhi Excise Policy Case by a Supreme Court Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan. The Aam Aadmi Party politician surrendered on March 21 and has been in jail ever since. The verdict in this case was reserved on September 5 and has been pronounced today. The Court also said, “completion of trial (is) unlikely to occur in (the) immediate future.”
