New Tehri: A man-eating leopard mauled a three-year-old child to death after grabbing him from outside his house in Uttarakhand's New Tehri while he was playing with his cousins.
According to officials, the child's mutilated body was later found in nearby bushes.
The incident occurred around 5 PM in Purwal village when Ankit Kumar's son, Raj Kumar, was playing in the courtyard with his maternal uncle's children, as reported by officials.
Bhilangana Range Officer of the Tehri Forest Division, Ashish Nautiyal, and Purwal village head, Sanjay Tiwari, stated that the child had wandered behind the house, where a leopard was lying in ambush. The predator then seized the child and dragged him away.
After her son went missing, Manju Devi frantically searched for him. Neighbors soon joined the search, but the child could not be found initially.
It was only when someone noticed bloodstains on the road behind the house that the search led to the bushes, where the child's mauled body was discovered, officials said.
