Udham Singh Nagar: In a shocking incident, a woman was killed by her husband after she was allegedly injected with snake venom in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar. As per the complainant in the case, the man wanted to claim medical insurance with a payout of Rs 25 lakh.

Officials said that as per the complainant, the accused identified as Shubham had killed his wife on August 11 and had applied for a Rs 25 lakh insurance policy in her name on July 15.

Wife Killed Over Health Insurance Payout

“Shubham named himself the nominee and paid a Rs 2 lakh premium to the insurance company,” the complainant told police.

"We initially registered the case as a suspicious death, but have now upgraded it to a murder investigation after the post-mortem report revealed that Saloni's death was due to 'snake envenomation'. A thorough investigation is underway," police official said.

He added that Saloni's viscera were sent for further examination to gather evidence against Shubham.

Earlier in April this year, Nainital district and sessions judge Subir Kumar convicted 36-year-old Noida resident, Saddam Hussain, of killing his wife Tamanna by throwing her into a ditch in Nainital during their honeymoon in 2018.

District govt counsel, S K Sharma, said just a few weeks into their marriage, Tamanna died under mysterious circumstances. "Asif claimed Tamanna had been facing harassment at her in-law's house soon after the marriage. She had confided in her elder sister, Ruksana, about dowry harassment and physical abuse she was enduring, despite giving a dowry of more than Rs 51 lakh," said Sharma.
