New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day visit to Brunei and Singapore on Tuesday morning. This will mark the first ever bilateral visit by Prime Minister Modi to Brunei. With an aim to further deepening India’s ties with Brunei, Prime Minister is scheduled to meet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family. 

Notably, India-Brunei Darussalam diplomatic elations has completed 40 years.

PM Modi's Historic Visit to Brunei

Sharing details of his visit, PM Modi tweeted, "Over the next two days, will be visiting Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. During the various engagements in these nations, the focus will be on further deepening India’s ties with them. India-Brunei Darussalam diplomatic ties complete 40 glorious years. I look forward to meeting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (sic)."

When in Singapore, the PM will meet and hold bilateral talks with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. The focus of the meeting will remain on bolstering the ties between the two nation in various key sectors.

PM Modi to Meet Singapore President 

"In Singapore, I will hold talks with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. We are eager to further cement ties in key sectors," he further tweeted.

​​From Brunei, Pm Modi will travel to Singapore on September 4. PM Modi will also meet the leaders of the Singapore’s vibrant business community.

The meeting is also aimed at taking forward to the discussions to deepen India's Strategic Partnership with Singapore, particularly in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development.

​"Both countries are important partners in our Act East Policy and the Indo-Pacific Vision. I am confident that my visits would further strengthen our partnership with Brunei, Singapore and the larger ASEAN region," PM Modi said in a statement.
