UPSC Aspirants Death: 4 Co-Owners Of IAS Coaching Centre Gets Interim Bail
Three UPSC aspirants had died after they got stuck in the basement of the Rau's coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar.
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted interim bail to four co-owners of the Rau Coaching Centre when three UPSC aspirants died after they got stuck in rain waters in the basement of the coaching centre. The tragic incident took place on July 27 in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar. The bail will be in effect until January 30, 2024.
The court has requested the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi to form a committee, which will operate under the supervision of a retired High Court judge, to ensure that no coaching centres are run in basements across Delhi. Additionally, the court directed the four co-owners of the basement to deposit Rs 5 crore to the Red Cross Society.
Last month, a Delhi court dismissed RAU's IAS Study Circle's petition to allow it access to the premises of its Old Rajender Nagar building.
"Application dismissed," Chief judicial magistrate Nishant Garg said.
The judge had reserved the order after hearing arguments of the advocates appearing for the applicant as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Three UPSC civil services aspirants had died in the basement of the building due to flooding on July 27. The building was later sealed.
The applicant had sought the relief, saying the premises were needed for the smooth running of classes.
