Woman, her Two Granddaughters Killed As Wall Collapses in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur
The wall of their mud house collapsed due to weakening from the ongoing monsoon rains. The collapse trapped the three family members under the debris.
Surajpur: A 55-year-old woman and her two young granddaughters tragically died after a wall of their kutcha (mud) house collapsed in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, police reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening in Kartama village, located within the Jainagar police station limits. The victims were identified as Dhanmatia Das and her granddaughters, Bijli, aged 3, and Suhani, aged 2, according to a police official.
Wall Weakened by Ongoing Monsoon
Initial reports suggest that the children were at home with their grandmother while their parents, who work as laborers, were out for work. The wall of their mud house likely fell due to weakening from the ongoing monsoon rains. The collapse trapped the three family members under the debris.
Father Rushes to Hospital, Doctor Declares them Dead
After discovering the tragedy, the children's father rushed them to the Medical College Hospital in Ambikapur, Surguja district. However, doctors there declared all three dead upon arrival.
The police have registered an accidental death report and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
In a similar incident, a laborer lost his life and five others were rescued after a roof slab of an under-construction building collapsed in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district, officials said.
The incident occurred recently in Coral village, located in Mhow tehsil, about 40 kilometers from the district headquarters. The roof caved in while all six laborers were asleep beneath it after a long day of work.
The collapse was discovered in the morning when other workers arrived at the site to begin their day. Rescue teams recovered the body of the deceased laborer from the rubble, while the five others were safely pulled out from the debris.
