Australia brushed aside the Sri Lankan challenge as they comprehensively defeated the visitors in the third T20I at Melbourne on Friday. Set a target of 143, Australia reached the target in the 18th over thanks to a David Warner half-century. The win helped Australia whitewash Sri Lanka in the T20I series after winning the first two games in Adelaide and Brisbane respectively.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lankan keeper-batsman Kusal Perera scored a whirlwind 57 to guide Sri Lanka to a respectable 142/6, after the Australian pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson and Pat Cummins picked up two wickets each. Australia got off to a good start with David Warner and captain Aaron Finch punishing the Sri Lankan bowlers’ en-route their 69-run stand. Finch departed for 37, but Warner continued his good run of form with another half-century, remaining not out at 57 as Australia chased down 143 with 14 balls to spare. Warner became one of the few players to score more than 50 runs in all games of a 3-match T20I series.
