Ganguly: Hope that Kohli can change trend of losing in knock-out games

Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, who is set to begin his next innings as the BCCI President, on Monday said that he wants the Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli to win more matches in the knock-out phase of ICC tournaments. While speaking to the media after his appointment as the BCCI President, Ganguly said that he feels great to head the country's cricket board and it also gives him the opportunity to do something at a time when the board’s image has got questioned quite a lot.

Ganguly: "Virat is a champion player" 

Ganguly, on Monday, said, "India is a good team and I know that they have failed to win a big ICC tournament in the recent past. However, they play well in big tournaments except in the semifinals and finals. I hope that Virat Kohli, as a captain, can change it around. He is one of the best and a champion player." This comes after India failed to win the 2019 ICC World Cup despite being the favourites. India dominated the entire tournament until it lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals. The team last won an ICC trophy back in 2013 as the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team grabbed the ICC Champions Trophy in England. India failed to win the 2017 Champions Trophy after losing the final to arch-rivals Pakistan and conceding their first defeat against Pakistan in an ICC tournament. The team was also held back at home and failed to reach the 2016 World T20 final as they lost by 7 wickets to West Indies who went on to bag the title.

Ganguly to be elected unanimously 

Ganguly had filed his nomination for the post on Monday and will be elected unanimously for the position. After filing his nomination, Sourav Ganguly said that his priority is to look at the first-class cricket in the country. Ganguly though has time only till July 2020 when his term ends due to mandatory cooling-off period according to the new rules set down by the Supreme Court. As per the rules, an administrator can only serve for six years in a row. Ganguly has been holding various positions in the CAB for the last five years.
