There is a lot of mystery surrounding the gloveman's future. The former India skipper last met his teammates at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi when India beat South Africa as they whitewashed them in the three-match Test series.

Newly-elected BCCI President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly had already made it clear that the decision to retire is Dhoni's personal choice and that he will be having a discussion on it with the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper. India head coach Ravi Shastri had also said that Dhoni had earned the right to retire from the game when he wanted to.

Dhoni has been on a sabbatical since the conclusion of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which was played in England. The legendary wicket-keeper, who is also considered as the best finisher, was out of the team for the series against West Indies, South Africa and Bangladesh. He made himself unavailable till November and if Indian media reports are to be believed, Dhoni will make a comeback into the Indian team with the T20 and ODI series against West Indies which is scheduled in the next month.
