Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan recall 1st ODI match glory over SA, emphasise on bowling spell, game plan

South Africa was limited to their lowest-ever ODI score at home by Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan, who shared nine wickets combined

With his unwavering temperament and meticulous approach, Arshdeep Singh, an Indian fast bowler, achieved his first-ever five-wicket haul in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against South Africa on Sunday. Team India stood as the dominant force over the Proteas in the first ODI game of the three-match series.

“I visualised taking five wickets”- says Arshdeep Singh 

Sunne mey lagega ki kahaani bana raha (It might sound like that I am making a story). I visualised taking five wickets and celebrating it with the aeroplane style before going to the bed,” Arshdeep told Avesh.

The day before the game, Avesh and Arshdeep did a photo shoot. They shared a picture on Instagram through collab  According to Arshdeep, the photo shoot boasted him to do well. 

“That photoshoot motivated me a lot to do well,” he said.

“Plan was to bowl in the stumps and there was purchase from the track as well because of the moisture,” he added.

Arshdeep also asked Avesh as to how he kept himself ready despite not playing regularly in return to which Avesh answered: “I try to focus on the things that is in my hands. When I didn’t get the chance to play in the T20Is, I was preparing for the ODIs. I was bowling seven and eight overs in the nets. It helped me,”

Arshdeep was praised by Avesh for putting everything on the line for him. 

“You set up the match for me. They were under pressure. My plan was to bowl wicket to wicket

“I hope we both keep taking wickets in the future. We spend so much time together, keep talking about the field placement and how to bowl to a certain batsman. I hope, we keep doing it in the future,” said Avesh.

Team India will now face South Africa at the St George's Oval  in their 2nd ODI match.
