IPL 2025: It was a night to remember for Ashutosh Sharma as he turned out to be the gamechanger for Delhi Capitals in Vizag. Ashutosh hit a blistering 66* off 31 balls to take Capitals over the line on Monday. His breathtaking knock was studded with five sixes and five boundaries.
Following the win, Ashutosh has become the toast of the nation as everyone is hailing him for his effort. Amid all the praise, former India cricketer Amay Khurasia made a bold statement. Khurasia, who also happens to be his childhood coach, urged DC captain Axar Patel to allow Ashutosh open the batting if they want to win the IPL. Admitting that Ashutosh can absorb pressure, Khurasiya reckoned he is able enough to open and face the new ball.
"Took the lessons from last year. Missed out on finishing the game on a couple of occasions in the previous season. The whole year I focussed and visualised about it. Had the belief that if I play till the last over, anything can happen. Well played to Vipraj. I asked him to keep hitting. He was very calm under pressure. Want to dedicate this award to my mentor Shikhar paaji," Ashutosh said at the post-match presentation.
"He has always had a lot of resilience. He can absorb pressure, something he has done in the past—not just in the IPL but in other games and in life as well. He is a determined player, always striving to improve his game. If Delhi wants to win their maiden title, they must send him to open the innings," he told TOI.
It would be interesting to see if Ashutosh is promoted up the order and made to open or not. The Capitals take on Hyderabad on March 30 in Vizag.
