IPL 2025: The night on Monday belonged to Ashutosh Sharma as he hit a breathtaking 66* off 31 balls to take DC over the line. Ashutosh, who was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the auction, showed his former franchise the mistke they made. He was the star for the Capitals at Vizag as his knock was laced with five sixes and five boundaries. Following the win, he dedicated the award to former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

"Well played to Vipraj. I asked him to keep hitting. He was very calm under pressure. Want to dedicate this award to my mentor Shikhar paaji."

‘Took the lessons from last year’

The 26-year-old also credited his last season, claiming that he learnt to finish games from his past experiences. "Took the lessons from last year. Missed out on finishing the game on a couple of occasions in the previous season. The whole year I focused and visualised about it. Had the belief that if I play till the last over, anything can happen," he said.

DC's Memorable Chase

Chasing a challenging 210 to win, the Capitals faced an uphill task after losing two huge wickets of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel in the very first over. However, Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh rose to the occasion, forging a remarkable comeback to secure a memorable victory. Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke also expressed his views on Ashutosh's innings, saying that by the end of the tournament, his knock will be featured in the top five.

Ashutosh walked out at No. 7 as Impact Substitute in DC's chase of 210 when the scoreboard read 65/5 in the seventh over. He delivered a game-changing knock, smashing an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls studded with five sixes and as many fours. There was support, first from Tristan Stubbs (34 in 22) and then from IPL debutant Vipraj, who scored 39 in 15 balls as DC achieved their highest successful run chase in IPL history.
