BCCI's Crackdown On 'Superstar Culture' In Indian Test Team Continues, Big Call Likely To Be Taken Ahead Of England Series

This has been a bittersweet year for Indian cricket so far. The Indian Test team and the ODI team has experienced contrasting futures so far and the results in both the formats have been extremely different from each other. Rohit Sharma led his team to stellar undefeated Champions Trophy campaign, but as far as India's Test future is concerned, things don't look that good. India started the year while they were on their Australian tour. Rohit Sharma and Co. faced a shocking defeat at the hands of the Australian Test team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that ended in January.

India were almost guaranteed a spot in the World Test Championship finals, but a 3-0 home series loss against New Zealand and the defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against pat Cummins' Aussies dented theitr hopes and knocked them out of contention.

India's Test Playing Stars Likely Play Against England Lions For The 'A' Team

During the Australian tour, there were several reports of rifts in the Indian dressing room. It was also reported that Head Coach Gautam Gambhir was highly displeased with the environment in the dressing room and wanted things to change for good. Follwoing the debacle 'Down Under', the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it mandattory for all the members of the Indian team to play domestic cricket when they are off national duty.

It is now being reported that some of India's frontline Test players will have to represent India A and will have to play two warm-up games against England Lions to prepare themselves for the IND vs ENG Test series. 'There is enough time to announce the squad, mostly ahead of the knockouts or just after those matches. You will then get a clear picture as to which players are available by then', said a BCCI source as quoted by PTI.

India To Kickstart WTC 2027 Cycle With Series Against England

Just 25 days after the culmination of the Indian Premier League, the Indian Team will embark on its journey to win the 2027 cycle of the World test Championship. The Indian Team plays a series of five Test matches against Ben Stokes' defiant and aggressive English side. The India vs England Test series commences on June 20, 2025.
