Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings decimated Gujarat Titans by 11 runs in Match 5 of the ongoing IPL 2025. The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, and it was a run-fest on display. Punjab Kings, who have never won the IPL and haven't qualified for the playoffs for the past 10 years, now look like a force to reckon with and have teased their plans for the season. Riding on the back of a spectacular performance by skipper Shreyas Iyer, Punjab registered their first victory in the eighteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Punjab Kings Playfully Tease Gujarat Titans

Right after defeating Gujarat Titans in their den, the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Punjab Kings shared a special victory post with a very unique Gujarati reference. The social media team of the Punjab Kings captioned the post 'Majaa Aavi Gayi'. Interestingly, the video also starts with PBKS batter Shashank Singh speaking a phrase in Gujarati.

Iyer Reflects on PBKS Captaincy Debut

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 97 off 42 deliveries. Iyer was also adjudged the 'Player of the Match' on his captaincy debut for the Punjab Kings. Ahead of the season, Punjab Head Coach Ricky Ponting had teased the fact that he wanted to do something special with the Punjab squad, and the team's performance against Gujarat adds more meat to it.

"Ecstatic, to be honest. Getting 97 in the first match is always the icing on the cake. No better feeling, to be honest. It was important for me to go ahead and adapt. I got four off the first ball, and that gave me an immense boost. That flicked six off Rabada - I think that was the momentum change. There was some extra bounce as well. I think we adapted quickly," said Iyer after the match. Punjab will now play their next match against Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
