BCCI Lifts Saliva Ban Ahead Of IPL 2025

A BCCI official told PTI, “The saliva ban has been lifted. Majority of captains were in favour of the move." The saliva ban came into effect during the COVID-19 pandemic and later in 2022 ICC banned it permanently. As per Cricbuzz, the rule was discussed in the BCCI meeting held on Thursday in Mumbai and the decision was conveyed to all the captains and the managers.

IPL became the first major cricketing event to abolish the saliva ban. Bowlers will have now something to cheer for as T20 cricket is usually known to be a batters' game.

BCCI Introduces New Rule To Counter Dew Impact

As per the Cricbuzz report, BCCI also decided to introduce a second new ball in the 11th over of the second innings during a night game. The new rule will be introduced to counter the impact of dew during games and the umpires will have the right to determine whether to change the ball or not. A source told Cricbuzz, “It's up to the umpires to determine whether the ball needs to be changed. They will decide based on the presence of dew.” The rule's primary goal is to mitigate the effect of dew during night matches which usually hands an advantage to the team batting second.

IPL 2025 will kick off on March 22 when defending champions KKR will host RCB at the Eden Gardens.
