Ibrahim Zadran's sensational 177 powered Afghanistan to a monumental 325 runs against England in a Champions Trophy clash at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday. Both these sides are in dire need of a win as any slipups would cost them an elimination from the Champions Trophy 2025.

Zadran's 177 helped him to enter an elite list. The Afghan batter is now the highest run-scorer in the history of the Champions Trophy. He broke England's Ben Duckett's record who achieved the milestone with his sensational 165 run knock against Australia in the last game.

Zadran also became the highest-scoring Afghanistan player in ODI cricket breaking his own record of 162 against Sri Lanka in 2022. His innings included 12 boundaries and six over boundaries and the Afghans would be hoping to tame their opponents in order to secure a place in the knockouts. They were once struggling at 37/3 but riding on Zadran's brilliance they have managed to bridge the gap.

Jofra Archer was the peak of the England bowlers with a three-wicket haul but he was pretty expensive as he gave away 64 runs in his 10-over spell. This also happens to be Afghanistan's highest ever score in the ICC men's ODI tournament. Their previous best was 291/5 against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Group B In Champions Trophy Still Wide Open

Afghanistan have been dubbed as the giant slayers as they have often managed to defy the odds by getting the better of cricketing superpowers. They defeated England and Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup and have emerged as one of the underdogs in recent times. The game between Australia and South Africa was washed away on Monday and Group B is still wide open. Afghanistan would be hoping to inflict a second defeat on England which would open their avenue to the Champions Trophy semifinal.
