IPL 2025: After Kolkata Knight Riders take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening game of the eighteenth season of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in a 'Super Sunday' clash, on March 23, 2025. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two most successful IPL franchises and both of them have five IPL titles to their name. Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Mumbai Indians in their opening game.
Mumbai Indians had a horrific group-stage exit in IPL 2024. After they missed out on a playoff berth last year, Hardik Pandya was handed a one-game ban for the slow-over rate offence against the Lucknow Super Giants during the team’s last IPL 2024 match. This will be Ruturaj Gaikwad's second consecutive year as the Chennai Super Kings skipper. Both MI and CSK will eye playoff spots which they missed last year. Mumbai and Chennai will eye a strong start to their IPL 2025 campaign.

Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, both have earned themselves the distinction of winning five IPL trophies, but interestingly, both these teams now have new leaders in Hardik Pandya and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will lock horns with each other in the iconic Chepauk Stadium. Mumbai and Chennai have played 37 IPL matches against each other. Chennai have won 17 games, whereas Mumbai have won 20 games. Mumbai certainly have an upper hand over Chennai at this moment in time.
Adding on to it, Chennai and Mumbai have faced each other in three IPL Finals (2010, 2013 and 2019). Mumbai have defeated Chennai in two IPL finals (2013 and 2019), whereas Chennai have won only one IPL final against the 'men in blue and gold'.
