Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has opened up on his relationship with skipper Rohit Sharma, revealing that Rohit is a great person, which is an important factor. He added that good humans end up becoming a great leader, and Rohit is someone who has achieved it with his wins in the IPL as well as the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Gambhir also pondered upon the upcoming challenge and is hopeful that Rohit is at his best as a batter and a leader.
Gautam Gambhir Highlights Upon His Relationship With Rohit Sharma
The relationship between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir officially began after Team India's win in the T20 World Cup, as Rahul Dravid's term with Team India ended after that. The Sri Lanka tour was the first time where both sides have worked together. Since then, it has been a rollercoaster ride, but the skipper and coach duo has been working together well in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. Ahead of the summit clash between India and New Zealand, head coach Gautam Gambhir has shared his thoughts on the Indian skipper.
"Forget about Rohit as a captain. I’ve had a fabulous relationship with him. I think he’s just a great guy, and that is something that’s important. When you’re a good human being, you end up becoming a good leader.
"That’s the reason why I feel he’s achieved quite a lot with his IPL franchise and has won the T20 World Cup as well. But again, those are histories, that’s the past. Now we have a new challenge ahead. Hopefully, he can be at his best, not only from a batting point of view but as a leader as well," Gautam Gambhir said in a video shared by the ICC.

"Only player who has given me sleepless nights - no Chris Gayle, no AB de Villiers, only Rohit Sharma because I knew I had to have Plan A, Plan B and Plan C as well. If Rohit is in, I don't think anyone can take it easy. The only batsman I feared in IPL is Rohit Sharma. I have never planned for any batter in IPL other than Rohit Sharma," Gautam Gambhir revealed during an appearance on Star Sports.
All eyes are now on the Champions Trophy 2025 final, with India and New Zealand securing their position in the final. Expect it to be a thrilling encounter on Sunday when the Rohit Sharma-led side would lock horns for the title against the blackcaps. The match will take place at the Dubai International Stadium on 09th March 2025.
