'I am like an older brother': MS Dhoni makes big statement on his relationship with Virat Kohli

In a candid reflection on his long-standing relationship with Virat Kohli, former India captain MS Dhoni recently shared his thoughts, likening himself to an older brother to the current superstar. Speaking at an event, Dhoni, who has played a pivotal role in shaping Kohli's career, emphasized the strong bond they have shared over the years.

MS Dhoni breaks silence on his relationship with Virat Kohli 

"We have been playing since 2008/09; there's still an age gap. So I don't know whether I would say like I am an older brother or colleague or whatever name you give it. But at the end of the day, we have been colleagues, you know, who played for India for a very long time. He has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket," MS Dhoni said.

MS Dhoni's influence on Virat Kohli's career is well-documented. After Kohli's success in the 2008 U-19 World Cup, Dhoni, then India's captain, did not hesitate to bring the young talent into the senior team. Kohli was handed his maiden ODI cap under Dhoni's leadership, marking the beginning of a journey that would see him become one of the most successful batsmen in the world.

Throughout his early years in international cricket, Virat Kohli thrived under MS Dhoni's captaincy. The turning point in their professional relationship came in 2012 when Dhoni took Kohli under his wing, appointing him as vice-captain of the Indian team.

In January 2017, MS Dhoni stepped down as the captain of India's white-ball teams, passing the baton to Kohli. Dhoni had already handed the Test captaincy to Kohli in 2014. The transition was seamless, and Dhoni continued to contribute to the team as a player, guiding Kohli with his invaluable experience until the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Although Dhoni and Kohli never played together in the IPL, their partnership on the international stage has left a lasting legacy in Indian cricket. Dhoni's recent comments further underscore the deep respect and camaraderie that have defined their relationship.
