Royal Challengers Bengaluru decimated the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of IPL 2025. The Rajat Patidar-led franchise defeated the defending champions by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was a masterclass by former RCB skipper Virat Kohli that helped Bengaluru cross the finishing line with ease. Kohli scored an unbeaten 59 off 36 deliveries with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Kohli scored these runs with a strike rate of 163.89.
With one victory from as many matches, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are stationed on the second position of the IPL 2025 points table. RCB currently have a healthy run rate of +2.137. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Virat Kohli are synonymous with each other, and the former skipper of the franchise in many ways drives the huge fan following.
Rituparno Pakhira, an 18-year-old school student, invaded the Eden turf while Royal Challengers Bengaluru were batting against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening game of the Indian Premier League. Pakhira has now been banned from the Eden Gardens for the IPL season. Pakhira invaded the pitch and touched his idol Virat Kohli's feet. The former RCB skipper also obliged and asked the security personnel not to harm him.
Days after the incident, Pakhira has come forward and has shared his experience of meeting his idol Virat Kohli. "The moment I touched his feet, Virat asked me my name and said 'jaldi se bhaag ja.' He also urged the security not to hit me," said Pakhira, as quoted by the Times of India.
MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings and Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bengaluru have started the IPL in some dominant fashion. RCB beat KKR in their first game, and CSK defeated MI in their IPL 2025 opener. RCB had knocked CSK out of the IPL last year, and this, in many ways, will be a revenge game. The Bengaluru vs Chennai clash will be played on March 28, 2025.
