Uncertainty is looming over Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2025 home match against Lucknow Super Giants which is scheduled to be held on April 6. Due to Ram Navami, CAB already requested the BCCI to shift the match from Eden Gardens.
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly earlier confirmed that they requested BCCI to change the venue of the game and Guwahati could be a possible destination. But now it is learnt the BCCI is yet to take a call on the rescheduling of the match. In IPL 2024, KKR's home match against Rajasthan Royals also faced the same problem and the game had to be rescheduled.
In an interaction with ANI the CAB president confirmed the BCCI is yet to reply to their request.
"They (Kolkata Police) have requested us to reschedule the match. We have requested BCCI but they have not replied whether the match will be rescheduled or shifted to a new location... Kolkata Police has requested the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to reschedule the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on April 6, citing heavy security deployment across the city for Ram Navami."
Meeraj Khalid, Kolkata Polics's Joint CP (HQ) also reiterated the fact that they have already written to the CAB but haven't received a response yet.
Defending champions KKR are tipped as one of the favourites for the IPL 2025 title. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the charge for the IPL 2024 champions while Venkatesh Iyer will deputise him. The Kolkata-based franchise comprises a very competitive squad as the likes of Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Quinton de Kock can wreak havoc on their opponents on any day. Given their superior record against RCB in IPL, KKR will bank on their home comfort once again to beat Virat Kohli's team.
