IPL 2025: Ishan Kishan's comeback to competitive cricket is something that will be remembered for ages. The former Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batsman has been constantly targeted by critics for not being serious enough about his game and his international career. Kishan, who is now a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad , slammed a stellar ton on his debut for the orange army. With the presence of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in the Hyderabad squad, Ishan's place in the side was constantly questioned, but he has put all the criticism to rest now.
Once considered the future of Indian batting, Ishan Kishan finds himself on the sidelines, and it is proving to be extremely difficult for him to make inroads into the Indian cricket team. Ishan's last appearance for the 'men in blue' was in November 2023, and since then, he has continued to find himself out of the national team. But Ishan Kishan's recent heroics raise a big question mark on the selection committee and the protocols that the BCCI has in place.
Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan lost his BCCI central contract after he refused to show up for his domestic side. Since then, Kishan has been out of contention, and till this date, he continues to toil hard for a place in the team. But this poses serious questions on the policies that have been set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
After India's historic T20 World Cup triumph, the Indian team was to tour Sri Lanka, followed by two home Test series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Interestingly, the Duleep Trophy was scheduled to be played before the Bangladesh and the New Zealand Test series. Star Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma decided to give the Duleep Trophy a miss, but they were still considered for the selection of the Indian cricket team.
Form is not even a question here, as both the star batters were terribly out of form during the entire Bangladesh and New Zealand series. Ishan Kishan's maiden IPL ton is a statement in its own. The century speaks volumes about his skills, the kind of form that he is in, and the quality that he possesses. It also questions the application of the policies and protocols that are put in place.
After India's debacle in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, all the star players were asked to return to domestic cricket, but Kishan's case dates back to the days when the BCCI protocols were flouted at will.

Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad have continued to stamp their authority in the Indian Premier League. They opened their campaign in some dominant fashion and left Riyan Parag's Rajasthan Royals stunned. Riding high on Ishan Kishan's maiden IPL ton, Sunrisers Hyderabad ended up scoring 286 odd runs. Rajasthan Royals' Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel tried to pull things back and threatened to chase the total down, but unfortunately for them, they fell short by 44 runs.
