The post has come just weeks after Mumbai Indians sacked Rohit Sharma as captain. The franchise appointed Hardik Pandya as the new skipper after buying him from Gujarat Titans in all-cash deal. Hardik Pandya played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL before moving to Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2022 season.

Hardik helped Gujarat Titans win the IPL in their maiden season. They defeated Rajasthan Royals in the final. In IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans once again reached the summit clash but lost to Chennai Super Kings.
