Bharat Arun, the bowling coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, does not look worried about the defending champions' loss in the season opener. He also spoke highly about middle-order stars Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, who failed to make an impact against RCB. Coach Arun is hopeful that Russell will put up a show in the next game. He also spoke about Rinku's lack of effectiveness and said that they are not worried about his form in the game.
Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the IPL 2025 season opener. The defending champions looked in good shape until the middle-order collapse, which turned the tables in the Rajat Patidae-led RCB's favour. Losing the first match could be demoralizing, especially when you are the defending champions. However, bowling coach Bharat Arun looks unconcerned about the loss against Bengaluru and believes the middle-order stars would stand up to the occasion despite faltering against RCB.
"Sport is about failing. You fail more often, then you succeed. Of course, champions like Russell, I think it must be weighing in his mind that he failed last game and he is out to prove every single game. We are also hoping that he will really come good in tomorrow's game.
"Rinku has bated beautifully in the games leading up to the tournament. We are not too worried about his form," Bharat Arun said at the pre-match press conference.

The Kolkata Knight Riders' premier advantage is their reinforced middle-order which features big hitters from India and abroad. Two of the popular names, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, have made splashes in the previous season. But they did not have the best start against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as KKR fell at a subpar score of 177/4 at Eden Gardens. RCB did not break a sweat as Virat Kohli stood tall with an unbeaten 59 to win the game.
The Ajinkya Rahana-led side would aim to put the loss behind them and march ahead in the IPL 2025 season. The defending champions will now face off against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium in Assam on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
