IPL 2025: Big Shake Up In Rajasthan Royals Camp, 23-Year-Old To Lead RR In First Three Games

Indian Premier League: Just a few days left before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and Rajasthan Royals confirmed that 23-year-old batter Riyan Parag will be leading the franchise, while Sanju Samson will continue to play as a batter. Samson joined the Royals' training camp days after recovering from the finger surgery. Parag made his debut in the T20 tournament and with the Rajasthan-based franchise in 2019, following that it will be the first time the 23-year-old will lead the side.

The youngster played 70 IPL matches and scored 1173 in the cash-rich tournament at a strike rate of 135.14 and an average of 24.44. Last season in IPL 2024, Parag played 16 games and amassed 573 runs at a strike rate of 149.22. He slammed four fifties in the 17th season of the T20 tournament.

Rajasthan Royals took to their official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle and announced that Samson would be playing as a batter in the first three games of the tournament. While Parag will lead the franchise. 

“Update: Sanju will be playing our first three games as a batter, with Riyan stepping up to lead the boys in these matches,” Rajasthan Royals wrote on X.

Sanju Samson had staggering numbers in IPL history, He made his debut in the T20 tournament in 2013 and scored 4419 runs from 168 IPL matches at a strike rate of 138.96.

IPL 2025 will begin on March 22, the opening fixture will be between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens. While, Rajasthan Royals will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23. The Royals will take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in their second and third match of the tournament on March 26 and 30, respectively.
