Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has been bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a record sum of INR 24.75 crore (AUD 4.4 million). Starc has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders were the only franchises who were bidding for Starc after he breached the 10 crore mark at the auction. Both teams had 31 crore left in their purse when they started bidding for Starc.

Earlier, Australian skipper Pat Cummins went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for a record-breaking INR 20.50 crore (AUD 3.6 million). He became the most expensive player in IPL auction history. However, it didn't take long for Starc to break the record and become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League.
