The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Rajat Patidar, have secured a rare win over the Chennai Super Kings . The victory would be special, as they have won for the first time since 2008 in Chepauk. RCB's bowling displayed sheer brilliance as they crumbled the Chennai batting and restricted them way below the target. Bengaluru's perseverance and intent were on full display as they handed the Ruturaj Gaikwad -led side their first loss of the IPL 2025 season. RCB defeated CSK by 50 runs and breached the Chepauk fortress.
Chennai Super Kings perished heavily against RCB's bowling efficiency as top-order star Rahul Tripathi was dismissed at five runs, while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was sent packing after a four-ball duck. Luck did not favour the middle order either, as Deepak Hooda and Sam Curran lost their wickets early in the competition. Impact sub Shivam Dube stood tall for just 15 balls and scored 19 runs before being bowled out by Yash Dayal. R Ashwin too fell after scoring just 11 runs, bringing in MS Dhoni to the action. Towards the end, All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 25, and Dhoni smacked two consecutive sixes and a four.
Josh Hazlewood effectively resisted the CSK batting line-up after picking three wickets, while Yash Dayal scalped two wickets in the same over to restrict CSK's momentum in the game. Liam Livingstone also bagged two wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who made his debut with RCB in IPL, picked up one wicket. CSK were restricted at146 at the loss of 8 wickets.
Openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli gave RCB a captivating start, with the England batsman hitting big shots on the power play and scoring 32 off 16 balls. Kohli assisted with a 30-ball 31 before being dismissed by Noor Ahmad. Devdutt Padikkal came in to make an impact but was let go at the age of 27. Skipper Rajat Patidar rose to the occasion, scoring 51 runs to boost the team's total. While Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma could not put up big numbers, Tim David's cameo worried the CSK fans after he hit three maximums and a four. David raised the score, and Bengaluru reached 196 for the loss of seven wickets in the first innings against CSK.
For the Chennai Super Kings, Noor Ahmad was effective once again after he picked up three wickets. Matheesha Pathirana, who was selected for the Playing XI as he came off an injury, picked up two wickets in the game. Khaleel Ahmed and R Ashwin also contributed by taking a wicket each. But Bengaluru was just better than Chennai in tonight's clash.
