Simon Doull voiced doubts about Pat Cummins' significant acquisition by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 auction, indicating his status as the franchise's captain. SRH paid a whopping 20.50 crore for the Australian Test and ODI captain during the auction in Dubai on Tuesday. The team made six purchases in all, including Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga as their other two international acquisitions.

When asked about the purchase of Cummins during the SRH auction on Star Sports, Doull responded:

"Maybe they are looking for a captain. We have joked a little bit about it. Does (Aiden) Markram play every game now? They haven't announced their skipper. Does Pat Cummins take over that franchise? Does he come in and play a lot more instead of a (Marco) Jansen next year for them?"

"That's going to be the question mark. Now that you have paid all this money, you have got to get him into that team. Where does he start and whose place does he take? They have got a lot of high-quality overseas talent."

Doull said that the Hyderabad team had a surplus of six to seven overseas players who may play in every match, despite IPL restrictions limiting foreign players to four in the playing XI. He suggested that Pat Cummins take over as captain from Aiden Markram to alleviate the latter's obligation to play in every game.
