IPL 2025: In what may come as a major setback for the Delhi Capitals franchise, they may end up missing KL Rahul for the first two games. Rahul, who was lapped up by the Capitals this year, is being expected to play a major role for the franchise. Rahul is reportedly set to miss the first two games because of the birth of his first child with wife Athiya Shetty.
Rahul confirmed that he would become a first-time father just after India's triumphant run at the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Australia women's captain Alyssa Healy, who also happens to be the wife of Mitchell Starc, joined the Capitals camp earlier this week and she is the one who shared this piece of news. Healy made this huge revelation on YouTube channel LiSTNR Sport while previewing the franchise.
“No Harry Brook, (so) it will be interesting to see who the replacement player will be. They have KL Rahul, who will probably not play the first couple of games I think... they are awaiting the birth of (their) child, but that dynamic, is really cool,” Healy said.
“They have that power in the young guys but they also have a KL Rahul who can stitch the innings in T20 cricket. He's going to be really exciting to watch," she added.
After Rahul was released by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the auction, the Delhi Capitals franchise lapped him up for a whopping Rs 12 crore. He was expected to lead the side as he was doing the same at LSG. But surprisingly, that did not happen, as Axar Patel was handed over the role to lead.
Capitals will play their opener against the Super Giants on March 24 in Vizag.
